Welcome to the AFHOA Pollinator Garden site
Many years ago, a wonderful resident of AFHOA joined the Open Space Committee and looked for ways to make an impact. Her name was Caroline Kuhfahl, the "Butterfly Lady", lover of the Earth, its Nature and its People.
One of the many ways she contributed was to engage a number of her friends into creating a pollinator garden. Actually, at the time it was also called the Monarch Waystation, but is was very much in Caroline's mind it was a garden for all pollinators. Caroline got approval from the Board of Directors and worked with Jeremy (property manager at the time) to clear the space, dig it up, and the association put the origional fence up. Once the easy work was done, the ladies went to work proccuring plants, planting and watering them. The first season was glorious - flowers were varied and bustling and the pollinators were all over it. But as all gardeners know - weeds are inevitable. Over the years, the labor of maintenace became too much and the garden was not quite as glorious.
